God is really good, isn't He?
On any given day, those things greatly annoy me. I wonder why we have to "deal with this" and why can't Ixtlan feel more like home... more normal? The past year has held a lot of stress, and I've struggled to trust God and His goodness, His sovereignty. This summer, though, someone told me that the only way she was able to pull out of a very difficult test of faith... was to give thanks and to count her blessings. And I can testify that this has also been true for me.
Coming down our street alone, the blessings were countless... saying hello to the neighbors, making carnitas in a huge pot over a fire on the street... seeing friends on a motorcycle, enjoying themselves - likely a much-needed getaway from the stress of everyday life... and our front door, inviting me in to remind me that this is home.
And so life right now is very normal, peaceful, and manageable. Grant is hoping to at some point re-open his woodshop to paid projects, but right now he's just working on furniture for us. This time to get our lives in order has really been a blessing. Roberto comes in the afternoons to work on homework, and he's doing so well. His teacher has been working very hard with him, especially to help him catch up in math, and the difference in his attitude about school is just incredible. Thank you for praying for him along with us.
I wanted to conclude with a verse of thankfulness, and the first thing that came to mind is Psalm 105 - the chapter our blog theme is based on, and a chapter that God used to show us how He would take care of us. This journey started with thankfulness - something I had never realized before. Glory to God.
"O give thanks unto the Lord; call upon his name: make known his deeds among the people" (Psalm 105:1)
