three guys traffic and fries

This is the first in a series of posts chronicling our traveling adventures to Ixtlan, Mexico. Our ship is a 2001 GMC Jimmy and this is not her maiden voyage. Our crew is Grant (Captain, Odd Car Noise Detector), Scott (Co-pilot, Conscripted Blogger), and Taylor (Mechanic, Mexican Desert Bodyguard).
Last night Grant and I (Scott) left Normal life at 4:30 in the afternoon with a car full of canned green beans and other assorted household items. We had a pretty uneventful drive, ate at Wendy’s in Hannibal, and arrived at a Days Inn on the outskirts of Kansas City a little after 12:00.

Today, we picked up Taylor, our cousin from Kansas and the third member of our travelling trio, and booked it to the border. For lunch we stopped at McDonalds. It’s known affectionately by some as Mickey D’s or the Golden Arches, but for us it’s known as the place where Taylor ordered three sandwiches and ended up with three full meals. That’s more French fries then three inactive guys want to handle.
Tonight we hope to stay overnight in some bedrooms at the back of Austin church.

UPDATE: Big city construction zone + Car wreck = We’re in traffic right now.  We have been for two hours, and there’s no end lots of tail lights in sight. The Jimmy’s engine was getting hot, so we turned off the air and rolled down the windows. The air outside is hot, in the 90’s. The air inside the car is hot, in the 90’s. We are hot, around 98.6 degrees. Our only consolation prize is that we get good blog/story material. When I mentioned “booking it to the border” I was referring to the reading material that we brought along. But really, all in all we have a lot to be thankful for and nothing too significant has come up with the Jimmy, so we’re happy about that.
