shaken yet unscathed

Last night we were stuck in traffic for over two hours. In an hour we moved 1.1 miles. To put it into perspective, an average high school sprinter runs faster than the speed we were trucking at. At the end of the day someone was mad as a hornet. Or something, depending on how much personality you give insects. This one had personality. We arrived at the dorms behind the church after 12:00. It was a really nice interior and had everything we needed for a good nights sleep. As I was brushing my teeth, I glanced upward and noticed a friend on the light bulb. Taylor got a pair of jeans and started taking his bodyguard job seriously. I snuck into the other room in search of easier ways to earn man-points. It was worth leaving, because his first swing was a near miss, which would have been fine if he were using hand grenades. After almost getting stung on the neck, he emerged the victor, shaken but unscathed. The hornet was scathed.

That was the end of the hornet, but not the end of the hornet story. Basic blogger logic states that more hornets equals more hornet story. So, we have more hornet story. Another friend met a timely death by jeans before we went to church, and a third stinger-wielding bug instigated a lot of nervous glances and a spiritual analogy about Satan’s darts in the morning sermon.

The day at Austin church was wonderful and refreshing. We enjoyed the fellowship, meals, worship, and the teaching from the Word of God. Dennis and Dianne R. served us both breakfast and lunch and Dan K. from Tremont preached both sermons. We experienced a genuineness that only comes from the Spirit of the Living God. After the service, Grant and Rudy T. (who was randomly on his way back to Lacrosse from Ixtlan) talked for 15-20 min to the Austin church about the mission in Ixtlan.

Right now we are an hour away from supper and slumber in Laredo, Texas. There’s a Bible verse that says something about “in the mouth of two or three witnesses.” We had three witnesses to Taylor’s driving after church and two of them used their mouths quite frequently. Grant’s driving now and to reuse a descriptive phrase…we are shaken, but unscathed. Tomorrow we try to hopefully import the Jimmy legally without too much hassle.
