surprise!

My run the other morning was along a dry riverbed in the Sonoran desert... we are in Magdalena for the weekend! We can finally let you all know because Grant's parents arrived today as mentors for the ISU work team, and we wanted to surprise them. We were successful, and that was fun. :)

We've actually been here since Thursday morning - we flew in really early and Zach K. picked us up at the airport. Zach and Daniela so graciously hosted us at their house in town for two nights, and we loved our time with them. Their daughter Darilis and Ivory became the best of buds, and it was fun to see them having such a great time together. Darilis is so patient with Ivory!

We're blessed by our friendship with Zach and Daniela and it was good to reconnect with them and learn about their plans to move to Central Illinois this summer, if all goes well with their paperwork. I had the privilege of a coffee date with Daniela and Denise M. on Friday morning and enjoyed that immensely. Grant was able to attend Mens' Bible study with Zach, and other than that our days have mostly just been spent working together to keep our kids happy. :) Last night we went out to eat at a taqueria with Endi & Alisha and Zach & Daniela and families. Today we got in on a CVE baseball game, which they take pretty seriously around here.

Dad & Mom and several other mentors who flew in arrived late this afternoon, and like I said, we loved surprising them. The rest of the ISU group, who is coming on a bus, was supposed to have been arriving shortly, but a alternator failure set them back about 12 hours and now they will not be arriving until early tomorrow morning. You can be praying for safe travel and positive attitudes for them!

Ivory and Titus slept terribly the first night, but good last night, and are well on their way to sound sleep again tonight. We are spending our next three nights at Jonathan and Bere's house on campus, and then flying back to Guadalajara on Tuesday morning.

  1. And were we ever surprised! What a gift to be able to spend time with you in the warm sun away from the demands of home. We still can't believe how it all turned out.
    Love, Dad and Mom H.
