te invitamos

This week is Vacation Bible School here (or Escuela Biblica de Vacaciones). On Saturday night after Jovenes (Youth Group), we split into groups with the kids and went around to homes passing out invitations. Going with the kids is the best because they know all the houses in towns where there are families with young children. Unlike in the States, the vast majority of kids who attend VBS here don't regularly attend church. It is truly an opportunity to reach out, even if some are more sincere than others. I left today feeling a little overwhelmed at the mix of need - for lives with direction, for Christ, for parents who teach children the Truth. I'll post some more pictures later in the week of how VBS is going, but for now here are a few we took the night we passed out invitations.

Deep in conversation

Special delivery!

Making good use of my (still limited, but growing) Spanish.

Our group - Caleb got a little cut out of this picture but wanted to come with us so he was along for the ride too. (Left to right - Cynthia, Gloria Gonzalez, Ana Rosa, and me)

It started pouring just as we were finishing up. (I wish we could send all the rain north!) Praise God that the rain held off until we could get to the whole town! And praise God for umbrellas. It seems that there would be better places for this conversation to take place, but you know... :)

Thanks for your prayers for VBS this week. For Grant and I specifically, you can be praying for patience and financial discernment. We've been faced with the reality of the material and spiritual needs down here a couple times this week and it often leaves us confused. We're thankful, though, for the direction that we're finding in the Word and for the missionary team that we have to help us through the transition.
